This harbor scene. painted in 1883 is no doubt painted in the environs of Cozzens's home in Staten Island, New York. The group of boats is extraordinary, the presence of a coal-fired, steam-powered tugboat rare for this period. The addition of the surrounding landscape including a lighthouse is superlative. I cannot stress the importance of the dazzling color and condition of this masterpiece. It is no doubt one of his finest paintings.
